The Charleston Sanitary Landfill is a City owned facility and is managed
by Waste Management Incorporated.
Anatomy of a Landfill
The Landfill:
• Accepts household and commercial solid waste Monday through Friday
from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Residential solid waste (no demolition or shingles) will be allowed one
free dump at the landfill once a month on Free Day, which is every second
Wednesday of each month.
Closed on:
• New Year's Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
Fees
• $ 0.02 per pound (2 cents per pound)
• $ 40.00 per ton
The following wastes are prohibited from disposal
• Lead acid batteries
• Used oil filters
• Tires
• Liquids
• Pesticides
• CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbon: gas used in refrigerant and aerosols)
• PCBs (Polychlorinated biphenyl: compound used in electrical insulators,
flame retardants, and plasticizers)
• Other regulated wastes
